Stay on top of things

Luminaires for application in the food industry and in supplier companies are subject to strict requirements. Aspects of hygiene and breakage safety play a crucial role. If these requirements are not or insufficiently observed, health hazards due to foreign objects in food are the result, as product recalls show again and again. Luminaire manufacturers and everyone involved in the distribution chain have a great responsibility to ensure that their products meet the requirements.

Especially when it comes to shatter protection, you should make sure that the light fittings are equipped with a PC cover or a comparable special cover. Many manufacturers often offer PMMA covers with "increased impact resistance components" or "increased shatter protection" - however, these do not offer sufficient safety. In this context, some manufacturer are also advertising with test certificates, for example according to DIN 10500, although these only apply to sales vehicles or mobile sales facilities.

Here, we explain which terms, abbreviations, standards and systems are mentioned repeatedly in this context.

All SCHUCH light fittings for application in food areas (LM or IFS versions) meet the requirements of IFS/BRC/VDMA.
